When it comes to choosing a child care center for your child, one of the first things you want to do is take a tour of the facility. This is a great way to narrow down your choices. However, many parents don't know what to look for specifically when they visit a child care center for the first time. Here are four tips for getting the most out of it, which is going to help you determine which facilities you are most comfortable with:

  1. Be Wary of How Your Tour is Scheduled: When you call to schedule a tour with a day care center, the person you are speaking with should provide specific times for you to come in. This is an obvious sign that the day care center is well organized. If they ask you when you want to tour the facility and don't have a particular time that is appropriate for them, it could mean that the center isn't particularly organized. This is definitely something to look at for since an organized facility is likely to provide your children with a daily, organized routine that children thrive on.
  2. Ask About Security: When your children are away from home, you still want to ensure that they are safe, so be sure that you ask about their security measures at the facility. This way, during the tour, they should address specific security measures, such as an alarm, locking doors that keep the kids inside during certain times or the day, and more. If there aren't any security features that are pointed out, it's a sign that security is not taken seriously.
  3. Notice if They Request Personal Information: When you show up for a tour of the facility, you should notice whether or not the staff takes note of your child's name and age. If not, it's a sign that they may not provide children with the attention they need. This also ensures that the staff isn't pointing out certain features of the facility, such as the infant room that you won't particularly care about if your child is older. If they are just providing a general tour that isn't geared toward your child personally, you should be wary.
  4. Check for Follow Ups: After you have received a tour from multiple facilities, you should take note of which facilities are following up with you. If there are no follow up calls, it's a sign that the day care center is too busy to be able to take in more children including your own.

When you consider these four tips when touring day care centers (such as Miniapple International Montessori School), you can be sure that you are aware of what to look for that show signs of a great facility for your child to attend.
