If preschool is coming up for your little one, you may be feeling a little apprehension or anxiety. Your child may also be feeling this same type of anxiety as well. To help make your child's first day (and every day after) go smoothly, there are some things you can do to help ease your child's fears and worries. See below for helpful tips to prepare your child for his first day of preschool at a center like Advantage Learning Center.

Greet The Teacher Ahead Of Time

Most preschools have an open house, which allows you to see the classroom but also allows your child to see the school, meet the teacher, and maybe even meet a few of his new classmates as well. If your preschool offers this type of open house, be sure to take your child and spend a little bit of time getting your child used to the classroom and teacher as well. Play with some of the toys and activities around the room to help get your child used to the environment. This will help ease first day fears if he has already seen his classroom and met his teacher.

Allow Your Child To Choose His Backpack And First Day Outfit

Let your child choose his very first backpack to use for preschool. Also let him choose what outfit he wants to wear on his first day of school. This may help get him excited about his first day if he gets to carry his awesome new Ninja Turtle backpack and wear his favorite shirt.

Be Positive

Your child is going to follow suit with you, so if you're voicing your sadness about him going to school and being away from you, he may begin to feel sad and not want to leave your side. Be positive and excited about the day. Instead of voicing sadness, tell him what a great day he is going to have. Tell him some of the exciting, new things he may learn and new friends he may meet.

Allow Your Child To Have Something Comforting From Home

If your child is still apprehensive about going to school, allow him to have something with him from home that may give him some comfort. A photo of your family, a small stuffed animal, a favorite toy car, or even a heart-shaped sticker to serve as a reminder that he is loved. If it helps give your child comfort, allow him to have it with him in his backpack (or worn on his shirt). The extra comfort may give him a little more confidence and make the day a little less worrisome for your little one.

Preschool is a big deal. Just be sure to remain positive to help your child be positive and to make it a great experience for your child.
